Just Do Good Campaign: Students 4 Students (Bruin Shelter)
The Just Do Good campaign highlights businesses, student groups, and private enterprises for various #JustDoGood service acts. Groups are encouraged to submit their stories on our submission page (FOUND HERE), then we select from the stories that showcase people making this world a better place!
This week, we're sharing Louis Tse's #JustDoGood work with Students 4 Students at UCLA.
"College homelessness is an emerging issue that is only recently gaining awareness. The California State University system found that 10% of its students experience homelessness across its 23 campuses. The LA Community College system, nine campuses across LA, found that 1 in 5 of its students experienced homelessness.
These students are caught in the undertow of a perfect storm of two measurable forces, each of them massive in their own right: the lack of affordable education, and the lack of affordable housing.
In 2016, two UCLA students founded Students 4 Students (previously Bruin Shelter), a student-founded shelter that serves homeless college students in Los Angeles. Our space is open every day, including weekends, to provide these young people with a home and the basic needs to thrive in school.
What makes our shelter special is that we are a shelter run for students, by students. Because we are students ourselves, we understand first-hand the thousands of opportunities in a lifetime that are at stake between gaining a diploma or falling just short."
Thank you to Students 4 Students for providing a safe place for your peers. Your #JustDoGood initiative surely makes a positive difference on campus Keep it up!
